Commitment to Diversity

As a person in a very diverse school and city environment, my goals are to closely examine my work for bias, reflect the demographics around me, and treat all stakeholders with respect. I have interviewed a diverse range of people throughout my journalism experience, and I continue to examine myself for bias in my range of interviewees.

Black History Month

Along with former Digital Editor-In-Chief Ireland McCage, I packaged many scenes written by Journalism I students. Additionally, I wrote a story on former College Advisor Tavaria Smith and reviewed the book "Beasts Made of Night" for Black History Month. Read these stories below:

Event Coverage

I did an event coverage for the Gifted Minorities Achieving Night of Color. I got to experience wonderful talent from CCHS and BHL and talk to Victoria Bambo, a keynote speaker and ODYSSEY alum. It was a little stressful because it was only Aza and I covering, but I really enjoyed it.

Do Not Interview List

Left: SOURCES: In accordance with ODYSSEY policy, I filled out the Do Not Interview list once a cycle. This holds students accountable for diversity in their stories by compiling the percentage of sources of different races, genders, gender and romantic minorities, academic track, and positions/grades.
